Mobile COmmunication Vehicles

In November 2007 the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office of Emergency Services took delivery of two brand new Mobile Communication Units (MCU). Both vehicles were made possible through grant funding provided by the Department of Homeland Security. The vehicles are operated by the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office of Emergency Services and the Sheriff’s Communications Unit. The MCUs serve as a communications hub providing an incident not only two way radio communication & interoperability solutions but high speed satellite internet, a wireless hotspot, a network video platform and voice over ip (VOIP) phone lines. At an incident the MCU vehicles are designed to easily share there resources with other vehicles located in the vicinity.
